Privacy Policy
In short: FolioTone collects no data.
The app runs entirely on your iPhone. It has no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking, and it does not send your documents, recordings or voices anywhere. We cannot see what you import, read or record.
1. About this policy
This policy covers the iOS app FolioTone: Read Docs Aloud (shown as “FolioTone” on the Home Screen; in Simplified Chinese it is called “小学声 - 看文读文” and shown as “小学声”), bundle identifier com.foliotones.app, version 1.0 and later. The app is free and has no in-app purchases. Questions about this policy: cloudefs@163.com.
2. Information we collect
None. FolioTone does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal or usage information. The app contains no network code of its own and no third-party SDK that collects data, and it does not use the advertising identifier. Its Apple privacy manifest declares no collected data and no tracking.
3. What stays on your iPhone
To work, the app stores the following only inside its own storage area (sandbox) on your iPhone:
- copies of the documents and images you import, and the text extracted from them (including text recognized on the device from scanned pages and photos);
- your library organization, reading progress and settings;
- voice recordings you make and the voices created from them (see section 4);
- temporary speech audio cached to make playback smooth.
Passwords you enter to open password-protected PDFs are used only to open the file and are not saved. Photos are chosen with the iOS photo picker, so the app receives only the images you select and does not get access to your photo library.
4. Microphone and voice recordings
FolioTone asks for microphone access only when you choose to record your own voice to create a personal voice. The recording is processed on your iPhone to create the voice. Recordings and the voices made from them stay on the device and are never uploaded. You can delete a voice at any time in the app (Settings → Voice → My Voices: swipe left on the voice, or touch and hold it, then choose Delete). Please record only your own voice.
5. Network access
FolioTone itself makes no network requests: reading aloud, text recognition and voice creation all work without an internet connection. Some iOS features that the app uses may connect to the internet on their own, under Apple’s terms and outside the app’s control:
- Keyboard dictation. When the keyboard appears, iOS’s dictation service checks whether a network is available. On iPhone models sold in mainland China this can trigger the system prompt asking whether to allow FolioTone to use wireless data. Choosing “Off” is fine: the app works fully offline.
- iCloud Drive. If you pick a file that is stored in iCloud Drive but not yet downloaded to your iPhone, iOS downloads it so it can be imported.
- Links in PDFs. If you tap a web link inside a PDF, it may open in Safari.
- Apple system voices are managed and downloaded by iOS.
6. Feedback by email
If you tap Send Feedback, the app opens Mail with a new message addressed to cloudefs@163.com, with the app version in the subject. Nothing is attached. The message is sent only if you choose to send it yourself. We use what you write only to reply to you and to improve the app, and we do not share it.
7. Backups
Like other apps’ data, FolioTone’s data on your iPhone may be included in backups you make of your device with iCloud Backup or with a computer (Finder or iTunes). Those backups are controlled by you and handled under Apple’s terms; we have no access to them.
8. Deleting your data
- Deleting a document in FolioTone deletes the app’s copy and its extracted text and progress. The original file in Files is not changed.
- Deleting a voice removes the saved voice from your iPhone.
- Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the device.
Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing on our side to access, export or delete.
9. Children
FolioTone is not directed to children under 13. The app collects no data from anyone, including children.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new version number and effective date. If the app ever begins to collect data, the policy will be updated before that version is released.
